Nigeriaโ€™s Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has stated that punitive measures may soon be meted out on Mobile Network Operators in Nigeria for what it deems erratic network services.

โ€œLack of strict punishment for erring companies had led to a situation where consumers no longer get value for their money in the West African country,โ€ Dupe Atoki, CPC director general said in an ATCON newsletter report.

Dropped calls, unsolicited texts and calls, and credit wipe-off have remained basic hangups in Nigeriaโ€™s mobile ecosystem even with an above-the-charts teledensity.

Unfortunately, threats of this nature have been hardly effective in improving quality of service from telcos operating in Nigeria.

A ban from Nigeriaโ€™s NCC on operators that was aimed at stopping them from adding more subscribers to their network pending improvements on their network infrastructure and general network quality has notably been a dud.

It remains to be seen how this new red light by CPC will affect quality of service by local MNOs.
