Project Isizwe, a project dedicated to providing internet to low – income communities in South Africa and RADWIN, a global wireless broadband solutions provider have partnered to provide free internet access to city buses in Tshwane.
The free WiFi on the city buses will have up to 100 Mbps throughput per bus, according to a news release by RADWIN.
“In today’s connected world, access to the Internet should be available to everyone, regardless of circumstances,” Alan Knott-Craig, Founder & CEO of Project Isizwe said. ” With the FREE Wi-Fi FOR BUSES initiative, Project Isizwe and RADWIN are helping bridge the digital divide.”
The company said the first phase of the deployment began in December 2014 and over 200,000 unique users already used the service with total data usage of up to 30 terabytes.
The first phase of the project had 30 buses equipped with RADWIN’s FiberinMotion Vehicular Mobile Units (VMUs).
