Their president just received an ITU award, but Rwanda isn’t stopping there. In a bid for Rwanda to become one of the leading countries in ICT and broadband adoption, the Rwandan government has decided that  government services will be delivered online – and if it will minimise bureaucracy, time wastage and cost, then more power to it.

The website which will be called ‘RwandaOnline‘  will make services accessible to internet users on PCs and mobile devices. The programme is aimed initially at 100 crucial services, ranging from birth certificates, passports, health insurance and applications for identity cards, visa permits, and transfers of land title, ordinary passports, trading licences, motorcycle inspection and driving licences, normally offered  by government organizations, but, the director-general of ICT at the ministry, Didier Nkurikiyimfura, said that the end goal is to completely digitize all government services.

According to The New Times Rwanda, “officials in the Ministry of Youth and ICT say the move would reduce costs incurred by people seeking a range of government services, and increase efficiency as well as offer jobs to the youth.

The website is slated to go live early next year.
