According to Forbes, Tomi Ahonen is world’s most influential expert in mobile. If we ever doubted that, his awe-inspiring keynote speech at Mobile West Africa yesterday, 14th May, pretty much cleared it all.
Yesterday at Focus Day, we learnt some valuable lessons about the mobile industry. Tomi Ahonen’s presentation today was like the icing on the cake. Here are 7 interesting (paraphrased) quotes from his keynote.
- “There are more mobile subscriptions than humans in the world”.
- “Over-the-top messaging (WhatsApp, BBM etc) is not killing SMS, it is only stunting inevitable growth. SMS will peak in the next couple of years. And SMS users will peak around 2020.”
- “Mobile is the magical money making machine.”
- “We will have $10 smartphones by 2019.”
- “All phones will become smartphones by 2019.”
- 20 of the world’s biggest companies, all from different sectors, already admit their future will be disrupted by mobile.”
- “The grand convergence was worth a potential $ 6.1 trillion in 2013. 25% ($1.5 trillion) of that value has already been tapped into.”
