Google has extended the ability to rent and purchase Hollywood content via Google Play Movies to 4 more countries including Uganda.

The other countries are Belgium, Philippines and Switzerland. Barely 2 months ago, Google extended Google Play Movies to 13 African countries at a go, including Cape Verde, Niger and Mauritius. Prior to that, only Botswana and Zimbabwe had Google Play Movies.

Uganda will make it 16 African countries now who have access to the service. But Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa are still missing from the list. It is still unclear why this is so,  especially as these 3 could be their biggest African markets yet, but it’s most likely due to legal considerations and size of the markets.
