Remember Supermart, the online supermarket storefront Co-founded by ex Jumia CEO, Raphael Afaedor?
Apparently, they just signed a partnership with online bookstore, Laterna to offer book to customers. The Supermart landing page has been updated to reflect this new development.
Why would a grocery storefront even consider selling books you may ask? Our contact at Supermart gave us some insight into their decision to start selling books.
The basic idea is that when people walk into grocery stores to buy food and other fast moving consumer goods, they’ll often also look office supplies and other essentials. So while Supermart still maintains its grocery model, they are actively taking steps to make these other “essentials” like office supplies, books, medicine and other stuff available too. Supermart however won’t carry stuff like silverware or computers because then things start to get complicated.
Laterna is Supermart’s book partner because they are one of the most reputable and are quite strong in Lagos. Supermart have also brokered an arrangement with MedPlus pharmacy to supply medicines to their customers.
There’s more. Supermart delivery is no longer restricted to the VI-Ikoyi-Marina-Lekki-VGC axis. They now deliver to the mainland, particularly Ikeja, Maryland, Ilupeju, Ogba, Yaba, Surulere and surrounding areas.
We will keep you posted on any fresh updates.
