Earlier this year, Fortumo  announced that it is partnering with Safaricom to launch a carrier billing system for digital content merchants in Kenya. But less than a week later, it seems Safaricom is not on board with the union.

In a recent release from Safaricom, it has ordered payments company, Fortumo to withdraw statements regarding the signing of a mutually beneficial billing agreement between the two companies in the East African country.

“Safaricom claims it has not entered into any such agreements with Fortumo. Safaricom has also gone as far as to order Fortumo to remove the statement from its website,” a report on itnewsafrica reads.

Details are currently unavailable as to why Safaricom is distancing itself from the deal, but Fortumo’s Head of Marketing, Mattias Liivak, while averring that the firm had been testing the service locally over the past few months, admitted that, “There was no launch from Safaricom’s end.”
