NAP
NAPAfrica, a subsidiary of Teraco, has announced that it has reached a network throughput of 20 gigabits per second.

Teraco also revealed that the internet exchange facility currently serves over 180 internet service providers in Capetown, Johannesburg and Durban.

According to Lex Van Wyk, CEO of Teraco, “The understanding around the benefits of a neutral Internet exchange model has grown exponentially as a result of the NAPAfrica offering in sub-Saharan Africa. It is now a far more common and accepted model. Before its launch, the exchange market in sub-Saharan Africa was either a monopoly or non-existent, which never bodes well for pricing and service delivery.”

The company is hoping to exceed the current 20Gps network throughput within the next quarter.

Founded in 2012, NAPAfrica is an internet exchange point (IXP) for Teraco’s clientele across Sub-Saharan Africa. Through NAPAfrica, Teraco aims to provide a neutral internet exchange point and also reduce the cost of IP connections.
