Talking Bookz; a startup based in Nigeria, is stepping out as a publisher and an online retailer of audio books. The startup sells audio books via its website.

On talkingbookz.com, users can purchase and download audio books straight to their devices. The audio book retail platform works like a regular e-commerce website. The subject matter of Talking Bookz’ catalogue ranges from business, health, self help, fiction, management and children literature.

Founded by Kolapo Ogungbile and Damilola Aransiola, Talking Bookz launched on the 23rd of April at the 2015 Mobile West Africa and is one of the 1000 startups that will participate in the Tony Elemelu-funded accelerator programme, Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme.

“TalkingBookz seeks to disrupt the traditional book publishing market and redefine how Africans consume books”, says Talking Bookz CEO, Kolapo Ogungbile.

For African authors, this provides an opportunity to tap into global audio book market while users will be able to access African authored books in audio format.

The startup is working towards providing a subscription based service for frequent buyers, corporate organizations and schools.

The company says it currently has around 3000 audio books in its catalogue, a vast majority of these by foreign authors. However, the company is partnering with African publishing houses to add more African literary work. They are also in talks with Nigerian narrators for audio rendering of the content.

You can purchase any of the audio books on Talking Bookz at a 10% discounted price with the code: signupbonus.
