MTN South Africa is looking at scaling down its staff strength.

Reuters reports that the telecoms giant will go through with cutting jobs since the eight-week old strike by its workers union has shown it could do away with certain parts of its workforce.

MTN has not given its official position on the news. According to Reuters, a company representative said that the company is currently in a closed period and is unable to comment.

Earlier this week, MTN announced Mteto Nyati as the company’s new CEO after the resignation of Ahmad Farroukh on personal grounds.
