The CEO of Safaricom, Bob Collymore has joined the advisory board of Acumen.

Acumen is a non-profit investment fund, with interests in early-stage companies providing reliable and affordable access to agricultural inputs, quality education, clean energy, healthcare services, formal housing, and safe drinking water to low-income customers. They have offices in Accra, Karachi, Mumbai, Nairobi, and New York.

Speaking to CapitalFM in Kenya on the inclusion of the Safaricom CEO, Acumen founder Jacqueline Novogratz said, “Bob is an incredibly respected leader but, more importantly, he is passionate about catalyzing business to transform and empower communities. Throughout his career, he has shown the power of the private sector and private-public partnerships to improve the lives of the poor. His voice and expertise will be of great value in helping Acumen achieve its mission of tackling poverty.”

Mr. Collymore was recently appointed to the United Nations Global Compact Board by the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, in recognition of Safaricom’s commitment to environmental, sustainability and anti-corruption issues.

He has more than 30 years of commercial experience working in the telecommunications sector spanning diverse countries such as Japan, South Africa and the United Kingdom where he’s held senior roles in marketing, purchasing, retail and corporate affairs.

Mr Bob Collymore joins a board with an already impressive team of A-listers which includes Rebecca Eastmond, (Managing Director, J.P. Morgan); Arianna Huffington (President, Huffington Post Media Group) and Antony Jenkins (CEO, Barclays).
