Twitter has removed the 140 character limit on direct messages.
TechCabal reported earlier that the micro-blogging platform will scrap the 140 character limit on DMs. Twitter has now officially implemented this.
Direct Messages now go beyond 140 characters. Go long, express yourself, wax poetic: https://t.co/zr2lnTfOI7 pic.twitter.com/o4eSv6Wv5u

What this means is that Direct messages on Twitter can now go on-and-on in a single message. This change will not affect the public tweets, as the 140 character limit stays the same.
Twitter has began “rolling out this change today across our Android and iOS apps, on twitter.com,TweetDeck, and Twitter for Mac”.
