I reported yesterday, that Uber is preparing to launch in Abuja and Port Harcourt. They’ve quickly become the de facto transport service for middle class millennials in Lagos, like me.
Still? There’s lots of ground to cover before they can declare Nigeria…conquered. For that, they’ll need a lot more drivers on the road. Thing is, not a lot of people can afford to buy cars that meet their vehicle standards.
One of the criteria is that vehicles aren’t older than 2009, and shouldn’t have done up to 100,000km (that’s 62137.119 miles). Really? You’re unlikely to find any vehicles that new for less than N2-4 million, and the truth is that far too many people just don’t have that kind of money. And that’s where Uber Marketplace comes in.
It’s a platform that will help connect potential drivers with partners that can help finance their car purchases, get discounts, and get insurance. In the same vein, Uber announced that CAR4U is one of their first Marketplace partners. CAR4U is offering a long term leasing deal which includes maintenance and comprehensive insurance. The cars available for this deal are the Hyundai Elantra, Kia Cerato, VW Polo, Nissan Almera, and Nissan Sentra.
