Lagos-based fintech infrastructure provider brings together industry pioneers to discuss how artificial intelligence will reshape Africa’s digital economy
Lagos, Nigeria – November 8, 2025 – Kora, a leading pan-African business payments infrastructure provider, successfully hosted its second annual Sundown Sessions tagged ”AI in Africa: Scaling beyond the hype” on November 8, 2025, in Lagos. The event brought together fintech leaders, investors, tech entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts to explore the opportunities and challenges facing African businesses when it comes to Artificial Intelligence.
The event was anchored by a powerful keynote from Iyin Aboyeji, co-founder of Andela, Flutterwave, and Moove, who challenged attendees to think beyond traditional boundaries.
“We are now in an era where the digital economy is going to be the foundation of the global economy,” Aboyeji stated. “Our founders need to understand that they are in such an amazing era. They are so powerful, even though they don’t realize their power, that it is now time for them to have ambition for society.”
The event’s first panel featured a fireside chat with Ifeanyi Nwunne, Creative Director/Founder, I.N official and Yinka Ash, CEO/Founder of Ashcorp Group, moderated by Dickson Nsofor, CEO/Founder, Kora. The discussion explored “The next frontier for creativity: AI and the creator economy.”
The core business panel, “How AI Will Reshape Business Models in Africa,” was moderated by Chimgozirim Nwokoma (Senior Reporter, Techpoint) and brought together leading industry experts including: Somtochukwu Ifezue, Co-Founder/CEO of Piggyvest, Ugodre Obi-Chukwu, Founder/CEO of Nairametrics, Onyinye Olisah, CEO of Onus Financial Services, Frank Atat, Former Divisional Head of Payment and Solutions at FCMB and Buchi Okoro, CEO of Quidax.
The final panel, “African AI startups: What use cases are investors betting on?” was moderated by Rufai Oseni, Arise TV host and featured prominent investors like Lexi Novitske (General Partner, Norskenn22), Anil Atmaramani (Partner, Antler Africa) and Leslie Okechukwu, Investor Accelerator Venture Fellow, Dream VC.
When asked about which African country might produce the first $100 million pure AI company, Novitske predicted consumer applications would lead, while Atmaramani
emphasized infrastructure as the key enabler. The panel identified Nigeria, Egypt, and South Africa as the most likely candidates, each with distinct advantages.
Later in the evening, Kora unveiled its latest product, Kovo, which allows businesses to accept payments and manage orders directly on instant messaging apps. Speaking about the new product, Jime Akpusugh, Head of Innovation at Kora, stated, “With innovations like Kovo, we’re opening up new market verticals and making it possible for even the smallest businesses, with or without technical teams, to tap into the future of payments.”
Speaking throughout the event, Dickson Nsofor, Kora’s Founder and CEO, emphasized the company’s AI-first approach and ambitious expansion plans.
“Every role in Kora has an AI agent attached to it for our operational efficiency,” Nsofor revealed.
Dickson Nsofor announced Kora’s expansion plans for 2026 across and beyond Africa to countries like the USA, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.
The 2025 Sundown Sessions highlighted both tremendous opportunities and challenges facing African entrepreneurs navigating the AI revolution.
