Cape Town, South Africa – Blockfest Africa, one of the continent’s fastest-growing Web3 and blockchain festivals, is set to host its South African edition in Cape Town, marking its first expansion beyond Nigeria.
The event will take place from May 5 to May 11, 2026, bringing together builders, investors, developers, and ecosystem leaders from across Africa and the global Web3 community.
Convened by the Web3 educator and founder of Nirvana Academy, Samuel Olaoyenikan, popularly known as XeusTheGreat, Blockfest Africa has positioned itself as a platform focused on advancing blockchain education, cross-border collaboration, and real-world adoption across the continent.

The South Africa edition will be structured as a multi-day experience, combining a flagship conference with side events across the city giving attendees more room to connect outside the main conference.
Built around its core pillars – BUIDL, BRIDGE, and BECOME – the event aims to support African builders, connect ecosystems, and empower the next generation of Web3 innovators.
About Blockfest Africa
Blockfest Africa is a biggest Web3-focused festival in Africa that brings together key stakeholders across blockchain, including founders, developers, policymakers, creatives, and investors.

Unlike traditional conferences, the festival blends technology, culture, and community through exhibitions, networking sessions, and ecosystem showcases.
Organisers say the goal is to create an environment where African talent can access global opportunities while contributing to the continent’s growing role in the digital economy.
From Lagos to Cape Town
The expansion into South Africa follows the success of the 2025 edition held in Lagos, Nigeria, which attracted over 15,000 registrations and more than 12,000 total participants across physical and virtual attendance.

That edition positioned Lagos as a key hub for blockchain innovation in Africa, bringing together a mix of government, regulators, founders, and developers to explore the future of decentralized technologies.
With Cape Town now set to host its first roadshow in preparation of its yearly edition in Nigeria, Blockfest Africa is looking to extend its impact across regions and strengthen collaboration between Africa’s major tech ecosystems.
Why South Africa?
South Africa remains one of Africa’s most active technology and developer hubs, with over 120,000 professional developers and about 22% of the continent’s tech hubs.
Much of this activity is concentrated in Cape Town and Johannesburg, supported by a growing blockchain ecosystem and strong institutional and startup participation.
Hosting the festival in Cape Town, organisers say the move is aimed at tapping into this developer base while creating new pathways for collaboration between Southern, West, East, and North African builders.
The convener was earlier quoted this year saying:
“And when I mean community, I mean physical more than anything else. There’s only so much an online community can do for you. The alignments from physical meetups is x100. That’s why blockfestafrica destination South Africa is very important.”

Cake Wallet is confirmed as a Silver Sponsor of Blockfest SA, Wander With Abdul HQ will serve as the official travel partner, and Africa’s Blockchain Club has been announced as the first community partner.
