Millicom, a leading international telecommunications and media company, have today announced the establishment of a tech incubator in Rwanda to develop new, original and scalable digital solutions that they will be entitled to an equity stake in.
The incubator is called “Think” and it will be the station from which a selectively small number of budding entrepreneurs will be carefully chosen. Getting into “Think” will be via a highly competitive selection process; the application details for which will be announced by the local Tigo operation shortly.
Millicom will provide these selected entrepreneurs with seed investment, structured training and tutoring programmes as well as access to Tigo technical resources for product testing and trials and support in accessing outside investors and customers.
“Think” will be located in a facility in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali and will be launched later today at an event in Kigali attended by Jean-Philbert Nsengimana, Rwanda’s Minister for ICT and Hans-Holger Albrecht, the President and CEO of Millicom.
Hans-Holger Albrecht had this to say about the launch and Think: “Rwanda is a great place to do business. We know it has some extraordinary local talent whose skills and ingenuity we want to support. We are looking forward to driving the digital revolution with talented youth in all our Tigo operations in Africa.”
