Global electronics company, TCL has changed the conversation in Nigeria with the official debut of its new SQD-Mini LED TVs, alongside a lineup of AI-powered connected home appliances.

For years, TV manufacturers have competed to build bigger screens and pack in more pixels. But as higher resolutions become the norm, the real competition has shifted to what actually lights up those pixels. That’s where Mini LED technology is redefining the viewing experience, delivering better brightness, deeper contrast, and more precise picture quality.

At a launch event in Victoria Island, Lagos, on June 26, 2026, TCL unveiled the C7L, the first television in Nigeria to feature its proprietary SQD-Mini LED technology. Rather than limiting the launch to a flagship television, TCL also introduced a new range of smart air conditioners, washing machines and refrigerators, expanding its vision of a smart connected home.

According to market research firm Omdia, TCL is the world’s leading Mini LED TV brand and the leading manufacturer of ultra-large televisions measuring 75 inches and above. As competition in Nigeria’s consumer electronics market increases, the company is positioning the C7L as the benchmark for premium television technology.

At the heart of the C7L is TCL’s SQD-Mini LED display system. Unlike conventional Mini LED displays that primarily modify the backlight, TCL combines a refined blue Mini LED backlight with upgraded quantum dots and a specialised colour filter to improve colour accuracy and backlight precision. The result is deeper blacks, brighter highlights, stronger contrast and reduced blooming, the halo effect that can appear around bright objects on dark scenes.

Available in sizes ranging from 65 to 98 inches, the television features up to 2,176 local dimming zones and reaches a peak HDR brightness of 3,000 nits. TCL has also partnered with Danish audio company Bang & Olufsen to integrate custom-tuned speakers and subwoofers that deliver immersive sound without requiring an external soundbar.

Beyond televisions, TCL used the launch to strengthen its presence in Nigeria’s growing smart home market.

The FreshIN 3.0 air conditioner features an automated fresh-air system that continuously draws in outdoor air, filters it through a multi-stage purification system, and expels stale indoor air. The new C5 washing machine series connects to the TCL Home app and uses intelligent sensors to automatically adjust water levels, wash cycles, and temperature based on the size of each laundry load. Completing the lineup is a 500-litre cross-door inverter refrigerator with frost-free cooling and a built-in water dispenser.

The launch reflects TCL’s broader strategy of moving beyond standalone consumer electronics into an integrated ecosystem where televisions and home appliances work together through connected software, while also emphasising energy efficiency and automation.

“Nigerian consumers deserve the very best in picture quality and home technology without the premium price tag,” said Daniel Ray, Director of Sales for West Africa at TCL MEABG. “As the first to bring SQD-Mini LED technology to the local market, we are proud to deliver exceptional brightness, cinema-grade colour accuracy, precise light control, and immersive audio at prices that make true flagship performance more accessible than ever before.”

The new range of televisions and smart home appliances is now available across Nigeria through SIMS Nigeria and other authorised retail partners.
