The University of Ilorin (Unilorin) is set to enter a partnership with Nigeria Telecommunications company, Globacom, aimed at leveraging the network’s telecoms infrastructure to digitize the University’s entire curriculum and academic work.
The platform will allow students access to faculty curriculum, video lectures, local intranet, web-based learning and live teleconferencing facilities, from anywhere in the world, via their PCs or mobile phones
The partnership resulted from a courtesy visit to Globacom’s headquarters in Lagos, by an entourage from the institution led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali recently.
Globacom claims to already have eLearning templates in place, that can support over 5 years worth university curriculum, lecture notes and cached teaching sessions. They will also pilot a mobile money project in conjunction with the institution, in an attempt to drive cashless policy adoption among students.
Globacom is Nigeria’s biggest homegrown telecommunications network with over 19% of the overall marketshare.
