A coalition of private sector leaders, Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PHN), led by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote in alliance with other leaders of Nigerian public private industry space and Microsoft’s Bill Gates has launched ‘The $1 Million Health Innovation Challenge to Save One Million Lives in Nigeria’.
In a statement made available to TechCabal, the group revealed that the challenge was open to innovators, techies, academic institutions, NGOs and general health enthusiasts who can create processes and technologies that respond to specific Nigerian health sector challenges, in a manner that demonstrates social impact (lives saved), commercial viability and scalability. Aliko Dangote, founding patron at PHN in a statement disclosed that, “The Private Sector Health Alliance is at the forefront of mobilizing the private sector to complement government’s efforts in saving lives through innovation, advocacy and impact investments.”
The challenge will be outcomes-focused, with awards of up to $100,000 for the first prize winner doled out in multiple portions linked to milestones and results.
