The Facebook-owned multiplatform messaging app has released the voice calling update onto iOS.
The VoIP update which had since been released on Android finally rolled out on the iOS earlier today. But not quite. WhatsApp notes in the update description that it “is rolling out the feature slowly over the next few weeks”. So it’s possible some iOS users will not have the update just yet.
WhatsApp has hardly left the media spotlight for the past weeks with a seemingly endless stream of updates that include a web-client, a material design UI, the VoIP on Android and most recently, the option to back up WhatsApp chat log on to Google Drive. But all the update have flagrantly left iOS users out of the park.
The company’s CEO, Jan Koum, also recently announced that the platform is now serving 800 million active users, with a tongue-in-cheek aside to the media to note how that is different from registered users.
The latest WhatsApp update – 2.12.1 – on iOS also sports additional features including an iOS8 share extension that allows users share media files to WhatsApp from other apps and a quick camera option that allows users capture and share images inside chats.
Android Police also reports that the Android version of the app now lets users report senders as spam. This stream of updates from WhatsApp is a sharp deviation from the almost imperceptible periodic bug fixes we have come to recognize as updates on the network.
