The South African telecommunications operator, Telkom has widened its commercial next-generation LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network coverage to additional 22 suburbs across South Africa, Techcentral reports.
The LTE-Advanced is regular LTE with more advanced set of standards and technologies.
TelKom’s LTE-A now covers Carlswald, Highveld, Halfway Gardens, Houghton Estate, Illovo, Melrose, Midstream Estate, Midlands Estate, Noordwyk, Parktown, Parktown North, Parkview, Greenside, Sandhurst, Saxonwold, Vorna Valley, Kyalami Hills, Killarney, Green Point and Craighall Park in Gauteng; Rondebosch, Rosebank, Sea Point, Three Anchor Bay and Mouille Point in the Western Cape; and Umhlanga and Prestondale in KwaZulu-Natal.
Telkom’s access to sufficient radio frequency spectrum on the LTE-A technology has given it an edge over other telcos in the country. Telkom has access to 60MHz of spectrum in the 2,3GHz band, some of which it is currently using for its LTE-A rollout.
The company first unveiled its LTE-A plans December 2014, when it demonstrated peak speeds of 380Mbit/s at a consumer technology event.
