Nigeria’s telecommunications operator Globacom, in partnership with the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) have unveiled a Wi-Fi facility at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja.
Earlier report on Nigeria Communications Week, says the facility, which will be available at the domestic and the international wing of the airport, has been designed to provide as much as 100 megabits per second (100 Mbps) for travellers anywhere within the airport such as the departure, arrival and executive lounges including the ticketing and waiting areas.
Mr. Ike Oraekwuotu, Globacom’s Coordinator, Business Solutions, told Nigerian Communication Week that “Globacom was delighted to bring Nigeria up to speed with one of the best trends in the aviation industry worldwide by introducing ultra-high speed Wi-Fi data experience for travellers and other users of our airports, beginning with Nigeria’s flagship airport, the MMIA.”
To access the service, users are directed to a paywall with a three-options access: an existing data plan (with Globacom); recharging through Glo kiosks available at the airport and by paying through a credit (or debit) card.
The facility is a first of its kind in Nigeria and is expected to be extended to 22 other airports nationwide, according to the report.
