Hannes van Rensburg, the founder of Fundamo, the leading supplier of mobile banking and payment solutions, launched a Publishizer campaign to crowdfund the publication of his book, Cash in Cash out.
Why should you care? Hannes is often seen as the pioneer of mobile banking having launched the first mobile banking solution in 1999, and has been voted as one of the top hundred most influential people in telecommunication three years in a row. In 2011 he was given a lifetime achievement award by MEF.
The story of Fundamo, the mobile money solution, attracted quite a bit of attention particularly after it was acquired and integrated into VISA for $110 million. Since 2000 when it was founded, Fundamo has been the leading supplier of platforms to bank unbanked people in emerging markets. And now, the founder is documenting how he turned a humble African startup into a multi million dollar business.
The book will chronicle the story of Fundamo since its inception in 1999 up till after acquisition and integration into Visa in 2012.
Mr. Rensburg said he wrote this book with three kinds of people in mind: people involved in the mobile banking industry in emerging markets like India, Pakistan, Nigeria and South Africa, people working with startups and interested in exit strategies and thirdly, anybody that likes to read true stories about business and journeys of perseverance would also enjoy the book.
Cash in Cash out is already 80% done and is expected to be out before the year ends.
