HopStop, a public transit and directions mapping service currently accessible in over 300 cities will close shop next month, Techmoran has reported.
The service which was founded a decade ago by Chinedu Echeruo, was acquired in 2013 by Apple for a reported $1 billion. Currently, the HopStop service is functional in 100 metropolitan areas in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
The service’s popularity can be attributed to its accurate directions, which are customisable for drivers, trekkers, bikers among other features.
This is can be read as a move by Apple to bolster its own Apple Maps business which has not been as popular as Google Maps.
