Back in May, we announced that Uber was looking for an operations and logistics manager in Accra. Now, they’ve made it official – Ghana’s capital has become 467th city in the world to open itself up to the transport network company.

“Accra is bustling, connected city that Uber is proud to be launching in.” said Alon Lits, General Manager, Uber Sub-Saharan Africa. “It’s rapid growth and multiple ethnic communities make it an exciting place to introduce our service.”

He continued, “At Uber, we bring the world closer together by connecting global citizens to transport in a growing number of cities. We see Accra as a natural fit, because its people are willing to embrace innovation and technology and love products that are cool, exclusive and offer a new experience. We are able to deliver just that, safely, reliably and affordably.”

As part of launch festivities, riders can enter the promo code, MoveGhana for free rides between 12:00 on Thursday, June 9 and midnight on Sunday, June 12. The fine print says that users can’t take more than 6 “free rides” during that period, and must start and terminate within Accra. Free rides only remain free as long as the fare is under GHS 20.
