Giddiphones is an OLX (or Craigslist if you will), entirely dedicated to phones. The platform lets users buy and sell phones and phone accessories like any other classifieds website.
The niche focus is the platform’s key value proposition, according to its creator, Babayemi Olulana, who wants to bridge the “huge gap in the way generic sites like OLX list mobile devices”.
“This category on sites like olx.com are not adequately categorized, and there is presently no classified ad site that exclusively caters to phones”, he says.
Babayemi is positioning Giddiphones to replicate the success that classified ad sites like Cheki and PrivateProperty have recorded in their niche markets. Phones are undoubtedly Nigeria’s largest consumer electronic purchase, so it sounds like a plan. Cue NCC connected lines statistics (now over 180 million as at last count).
The platform launched in November, and while the pickings are still on the slim side, the founders assure us that listings are growing weekly. Listings are free pending growth, with interim monetisation via advertising.
I think Babayemi should really consider losing the second “d” in Giddiphones though. But for now, it’s www.giddiphones.com
