Ladies and gents, presenting the Global CyberLympics, an online cyber security competition. The contest brings teams from all over the world to compete in a series of information systems testing and hacking activities. Prizes include $1,000 cash prize for the whole team, an exclusive CyberLympics World Champion trophy and medal, and of course bragging rights.

In the first 3 rounds of competition, teams compete against players in their continent only. Teams from each continent with the highest score will be invited to compete at the live Global CyberLympics World Finals event in Washington DC.

In Africa, the first round was played last week on August 14, where over 10 teams went head to head. Out of the 10 teams, only 5 qualified for the 2nd round, three of which are from Nigeria. Round 2 commences tomorrow, Friday August 21, from 8pm to midnight where participants will assess and exploit vulnerabilities in systems contained within a Live Network.

The purpose of the Global CyberLympics is to “create an opportunity for ethical hacking to be accepted, practiced and demonstrated without any discrimination, across all geographical boundaries – for the purpose of understanding what it takes to protect and secure critical information and assets” the competition website reads.
