Shopify, the company that offers ecommerce solutions, has launched a new app called Sello. The idea behind Sello is to democratize the selling process and put ecommerce within the reach of more people.

If you plan to start your own ecommerce company, but you are intimidated, then Sello will be helpful. All you need to do to get started is take pictures of items you want to sell, price them and share the links on social networks. Right on the app, you can process payments and shipping orders. Sello is free and there are no transaction fees but you will pay for payment processing.

Christopher Lobay, Director of Product for Sello, said, “Sello removes those barriers, helping people focus on ideas they believe in [by] giving them a simple, fast, and approachable way to sell for the first time.”

He also said, “We think the marketplaces of the future are these social networks and instant messaging and all that stuff. Every person has their own footprint, and we allow them to reach out to the community that matters most to them.”

Users can also showcase their items on social media and then receive orders by inbox or direct messages. Sello is positioned as a substitute platform that comes with the extra option of payment processing. Payments can be processed with PayPal, credit/debit cards and cash. It’s up to you to choose. With Sello, you will still have to push your product listings on social media to drive traffic to your landing page.

The app is available on Android and iOS platforms but only in the UK, US and Canada, “with other regions to follow in the future.”
