Now, I’m a bit of a hermit, so goodluck finding pictures of me at weddings on saturdays, or any owambe for that matter.
But I cannot say the same for my compatriots. I just read that Lagosians spend $120 million on parties every year. Damn. Every saturday, events venues are packed to the brim with Nigerians celebrating something – a wedding, a birthday, a graduation, a retirement, or even just celebrating for the heck of it.
According to the CEO of events venue booking portal, ogaVenue, Andrew Airelobhegbe, “More than 20,000 thousand events are held monthly in Nigeria with the total amount spent on these events in excess of $200 million, and about 25% of the total cost of hosting an event is spent on venue rental”.
ogaVenue has well over 1500 event venues from across Nigeria listed on its portal, and has now given the opportunity to customers to take a virtual tour of venues in Lagos (it will be rolled out for halls outside Lagos soon). The virtual tour will display each hall from wall to wall, and ceiling to floor so there’s no need for prospective customers to have to visit multiple venues before making a purchasing decision.
The feature, named Virtual Venue Visit makes a lot of sense because pictures are…outdated and 2 dimensional, and because of bandwidth costs, video doesn’t scale. I tried it out a couple of times, and it appears to work pretty well.
