For two days, I used EllaClaw on the TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra, TECNO’s premium flagship, to understand what it actually is and what it can do.

TECNO recently released EllaClaw, an AI agent within its on-device assistant, Ella. With EllaClaw, it is making a bigger bet: an AI agent that doesn’t just answer questions, but goes off and executes multi-step tasks on your behalf, across apps, without you tapping through each step yourself.

EllaClaw fits into the wider move among smartphone makers to put agentic AI on devices. It also signals a step forward for TECNO AI, the intelligent collection of software and hardware tools integrated across TECNO’s smart ecosystem.

    What agentic AI means

Usually, a traditional voice assistant works in a single loop: you ask, it answers, and the interaction ends. It has no memory of why you asked and can’t chain actions together.

Agentic AI works differently. Give it a goal, not a single instruction, and it plans the steps to get there — deciding which apps to touch, in what order, adjusting as it goes. Ask a traditional assistant to “set an alarm for 7 am,” and it sets one.

Ask an agent like EllaClaw to “get me ready for my flight tomorrow”, and it checks the weather, pulls your departure time from your calendar, sets the alarm accordingly, and flags the airline’s gate-change text — all without you specifying a single step. It won’t book the flight for you, but it organises everything around it.

That level of automation requires deeper system access than older assistants ever needed. Executing tasks across calendar, messaging, and notes only works if the AI can read and act directly within those apps.

    What makes EllaClaw stand out

The system-level access is what enables EllaClaw to reach into SMS, calendar, notes, gallery, and other apps rather than operating as an isolated chatbot.

Instead of asking EllaClaw a question and getting an answer, you can give EllaClaw a one-sentence instruction. For instance, you can type “I am going on a business trip next week. Help me prepare”, and it plans and executes the steps: checking the weather, setting alarms, pulling relevant SMS notifications, and organising the itinerary.

    The core features of EllaClaw

    EllaClaw’s capabilities include:

One-sentence task automation — a single prompt triggers a workflow in multiple steps rather than a single response.

Cross-app integration — pulling and cross-referencing data from calendar, notes, weather, messaging, and other apps to attend to tasks.

Smart SMS summaries — scanning recent messages to flag time-sensitive items like bank alerts and bills, and identifying what’s safe to delete.

Persistent memory — EllaClaw retains context on user habits and preferences over time, rather than starting fresh with every session.

Device-caretaker skills — a newer addition, covering system tasks like clearing RAM, flagging battery-draining apps, and monitoring mobile data use.

In the “explore” option tab, EllaClaw has the following features:

Efficiency tools, which include an email writing assistant, a scanner that converts automatically to a document, and a document summarisation tool. It also has a feature that allows users to take pictures of problems, and it gets solved. This is particularly useful for users who are students or interns, and it walks them through the process of solving math or engineering problems.

    ● AI Health, which tracks healthy eating habits, symptoms, and monitors vitals such as heart rate and blood oxygen.

    ● Image Magic: You can generate an image from text, remove items from a picture, or generate an image.

Smart Life: Dialogue translation, placing phone calls, and telling you about the weather are some of the feature capabilities of Ellaclaw that make it stand out.

    Final thoughts

TECNO’s goal is to make agentic AI available to phones that dominate markets. As of today, EllaClaw is only available on TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra. This puts TECNO’s capable AI on one of its most capable hardware flagships. The feature list — SMS triage, cross-app scheduling, device upkeep, and persistent memory fits TECNO’s Practical AI positioning. This is a direction worth watching closely.

The true value of agentic AI is carrying out tasks for users, so that they have more time on their hands to do things that actually matter to them. EllaClaw can help users spend less time on their TECNO phone by taking care of routine tasks and everyday details.
