Nairobi Garage, the Kenyan co-working, office space provider, is expanding with a new branch in Westlands, Nairobi. This move will make it “Africa’s largest co-working space.” The new space will open on December 1.
Hannah Clifford, General Manager of Nairobi Garage, says that with the expansion, “Nairobi Garage will be able to offer affordable shared space to many more of Kenya’s top local startups. We also aim to make it easier for incoming entrepreneurs and investors from overseas who want to get a foothold in Africa. What you get with the Garage is a ready-made and very active community of innovators, looking to learn with and help one another”.
In a press release, the company highlighted that “the expansion comes as a response to the growing demand for quality working space and entrepreneurial community in one. With the launch of it’s second co-working space in Nairobi, the Garage will bring on board a greater variety in stages and sectors of new economy businesses, as well as international tech companies.”
The new 25,000 square foot office space will offer Nairobi-based businesses an additional 400 desks, plus a number of team rooms, meeting rooms and event space. The Westlands branch is expected to host around 70 companies, bringing Nairobi Garage’s total membership to 100 startups, SMEs and ecosystem players. It will offer it’s members all-inclusive 24/7 office facilities, access to an in-house café, events and workshops series tailored for entrepreneurs and techies, meeting rooms and presentation/event area.
Around 40% of the space has already been pre-booked for the Westlands branch, with companies such as Uber and Terragon Group signing up ahead of the opening. The Garage concept is also present in Cape Town and Lagos, and was born out of 88mph’s tech accelerator.
