The cash payment option went live in Lagos on Monday, and somehow, you still don’t have it? The feature is rolling out slowly, so not everyone will get it immediately. But I know a simple hack that will enable it for you right now. It will take all of thirty seconds.
Step one
Load up the Uber app. Right now, your debit card is the default and only payment method that is available to you. Okay.
Step two
Navigate to anywhere in Nairobi. For this example, I’ve simply typed in “Kilimani”, one of the major areas in Nairobi.
Step three
Return back to Lagos. By now, the cash option should be available, just select it from payment methods, and you should be good to go.
The reason why this works is because, whenever you visit a new city, Uber dynamically adapts the app’s UI to display the ride, pricing and payment options that are available in that locale. However, what a lot of people don’t know is that you don’t have to be physically present in that country to access those options. In the next screenshot, I’ve navigated my app to India, and I can a bunch of local offerings that don’t exist in Lagos.
As a feat of software engineering, Uber is remarkable. This is in fact why you can be in Lagos and hail an Uber for your significant other in London..assuming they didn’t have it already.
