Making online payments in Nigeria can be a serious pain. It’s not enough that you have to fill our card details every time you want to make a purchase, you also have to wait for those annoying One-Time-Passwords that almost never arrive our SMS inbox.
Snerpie Pay (formerly called Quickr) is a new startup with a pretty ambitious value proposition. They want to replace ATMs, POS Machine) and Debit/Credit Cards with your phone camera. According to Co-founder, Ayomide E. Daniels, “Snerpie Pay is accepted Online, Apps, Peer-2-Peer, P.O.S, Utility Bills, Donations and all other platforms for making and taking payments. We got it all covered. No more worries about your Personal Banking Information & Log in being hijacked, with Snerpie Pay you need not to provide any vital details to make or take payments”.
A lot of it is still pretty vague but if these guys are to be taken seriously, they have something pretty awesome going here.
“We have built an app and system that will integrate all mobile money companies together. A ‘Cross mobile money system’, says Daniels.
The Snerpie App will work to enable quick (3 seconds) swipe-based transactions by integrating various mobile money services into a ‘Cross Mobile Money System’. All information is encrypted in unique QR code and users can make “typeless” transactions just by opening their phone camera.
Security is of course a major concern when it comes to finances. Daniel says their systems allows payment to be made only from the app. All requests are sent from the accepted platforms into the app, and then the payment is processed from the Snerpie app.Just like taking money out of your physical wallet.
It all looks very promising, although there’s not much to work with right now except a static landing page and a promise that if you follow Snerpie on Twitter, they will DM you as soon as the product launches in September
