On Friday, June 27th, 2025, something extraordinary happened in Lagos, a gathering of young minds, bold ideas, and fearless innovation. Hosted at The Podium, Lekki, the Battle of the Bots was more than a robotics competition. It was a defining moment for Nigeria’s EdTech space where the future of learning, coding, and creativity was on full display.
Organized by Nigenius, the event brought together students from 29 schools, with over 1,000 students registered. From the moment the first robot hit the arena, it was clear, this was not just about competition. It was a celebration of Africa’s rising tech talents and a powerful statement that the next wave of global innovators is already here.
A Movement in Motion
Robots raced, dodged, detected, and problem-solved. Teams brainstormed and debugged under pressure. From obstacle-avoidance challenges to advanced robotic arms, the variety and depth of creativity on display was simply breathtaking.
What made this even more significant was the number of students who had never worked with robots before joining their school’s STEM club. Yet, through proper exposure and mentorship, they built working solutions and demonstrated skills that impressed educators, tech professionals, and sponsors alike.
Battle of the Bots 2025 pushed the boundaries of what STEM education can look like in Africa. It proved that with the right support, our students can compete on any global stage.

Leadership and Execution
Behind this powerful initiative is Kelechi Uchenna, Co-founder and CEO of Nigenius, whose mission to democratize tech education continues to spark real change. “This is not just an event,” Kelechi said. “It’s a platform for discovering talent, nurturing creativity, and making robotics and coding mainstream in African education.”
The event was flawlessly executed by Turtle Leaf Events, led by Tolu Fasina, who transformed the space into a high-tech innovation hub. Everything from registration to stage design was carried out with excellence, making the experience seamless for both students and guests.
