Most people wander around life without caring who owns their domain name. When I say domain name in this context, I’m talking about their name online – for me, that’s seyitaylor.com.

Sometimes, even those that should know make this elementary mistake. For example, Carly Fiorina, a former HP CEO who’s now running for President in the United States, left carlyfiorina.org available. Someone purchased the domain to make a statement about her tumultuous tenure as HP’s CEO saying:

Carly Fiorina failed to register this domain.
So I’m using it to tell you how many people she laid off at Hewlett-Packard.

And then proceeded to post 30,000 sad faces.

carly-fiorina

The temptation to leave your domain un-registered is great. You may think you’re not famous yet and so registering your domain isn’t important. But you never know when you might need it and you never know what someone may say about you online using your name.  So don’t wait till you’re running for President.  Open your computer and register your domain name now.  You never know what might happen.
