The Kenyan government, through the Ministry of Health, has launched a system that will collect and store population data on HIV. The system is called National Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and it’s a data warehouse that’ll serve as a source of reference to help guide and inform policy formulation regarding HIV.
Apparently, Kenya is taking this Vision 2030 thing serious. Yesterday, the UNFPA announced they’d be partnering with Nailabs to launch an accelerator project that’ll focus on promoting youth sexual reproductive health and rights. This EMR is part of Kenya’s goal to eliminate HIV by 2030.
If you’ve seen the HIV stats in Kenya, you’d understand why the government is gung ho about health. I mean, more than 29,000 youths between the ages of 15-24 get infected with HIV every year. Now, that’s alarming.
