The PowerPot V is a thermoelectric generator (part generator, part cookware) you can use on a ton of different heating sources to charge your various gadgets. The PowerPot combines the benefits of a lightweight cooking pot and an off-grid power charger so you can cook a meal while charging your gadgets. Once the pot is placed over a heat source, plug in your device through the flame resistant cord, and it charge just like it were plugged to standard outlet. And it isn’t just handy when you don’t have access to electricity — you can also use it to cook food!
Design and Features
PowerPot V has a USB 5 Watt (5V, 1A) output. It’s made of anodized aluminium, hence it is light. It’s compact; it is durable as it is weather and fire resistant and it is aesthetically pleasing. In addition to the main pot, it also comes with a USB charging cord for any USB device, three additional charging adapters, a combo lid-bowl-skillet, and a mesh storage bag. The silicone handles are flame-resistant and it can be used on any heat source, either a stove in the kitchen or a fire at a campsite.
Usability
The PowerPot V is extremely versatile and easy to operate. It comes with a full manual of instructions to that effect. The power pot also features dual utility in that it can be used for cooking and powering and it is said to work at all times.
The advantage of the Powerpot V over solar chargers would be in its weight. It is an extremely lightweight product.
The Kickstarter campaign started by David Toledo to fund this project ended in May 2012 and now Power Practical is now selling this crowd-funded project in kits at a starting price of $149 via various major retailers including Amazon. Expensive yes, but it is good inspiration.
The PowerPot V is a convenient, smartly-designed and well-executed accessory. Anyone can boil water; the PowerPot V provides a way to keep your gadgets topped off while doing so. It would definitely be a great addition to anyone’s emergency survival pack.
