Uber Lagos has just announced that they will launch a cash payment experiment in Lagos on Monday, January 18th, 2016.
“Paying with cash is really important for people in Nigeria so this is an exciting experiment for us. We want everyone to enjoy the hassle-free convenience of ordering a safe, reliable ride at the touch of a button. This cash experiment in Lagos will give us some great insights and help us develop our technology to best meet the needs of the local consumers.”, said Ebi Atawodi, General Manager for Uber Lagos.
Lagos is the third city in Africa, after Nairobi and Cairo, to get the feature enabled, and I expect it to spur massive growth in Lagos, like it did in Nairobi.
When the feature gets rolled out, riders simply need to choose the CASH payment option, take the ride, and pay the driver cash at the end of the trip. Not everyone will see the option immediately though. It will roll out gradually over the next few weeks.
Riders are encouraged to ride and share their feedback with Uber at support.lagos@uber.com or Facebook/Twitter using the hashtag #UberCashLagos
