| Nigerian ed-tech startup, uLesson, has launched an app to offer students in Nigeria (SS1-3), Ghana (SHS1-3), Liberia (Grade 10-12), Sierra Leone (S1-3), and Gambia (S1-3) a holistic curriculum-relevant learning experience in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The lessons will also prepare them for critical regional exams-WASSCE, SSCE, GCE and UTME as well as international tests like the SATs.
uLesson employs videos, interactive animations, quizzes, assessments and several years of official WAEC past examinations along with solutions in its content development plan which is executed and reviewed by subject matter experts. Its learning material is also stored on memory sticks that students can then access via mobile devices, a format that removes dependency on internet connectivity or data.
Towards the end of last year, the company raised a US$3.1 million seed funding from TLcom Capital and spent the better part of last year developing and producing learning material for its mobile platform. |

| Youverify, a Nigerian identity verification startup, has raised a US$1.5 million seed round led by Orange Digital Ventures Africa (ODV). Founded in 2017, Youverify is a business-to-business service that allows companies to verify the identity of people.
In a country with no single identification system, Youverify is not the only startup trying to fix identity verification in Nigeria. VerifyMe offers a similar service to banks to power their Know-Your-Customer (KYC) needs. With the new round, Youverify is looking to accelerate its growth and expand to other markets. |

| Kenya-based startup, Fuzu, has secured a Series A funding amounting to US$3.86 million from a number of funders including Sparkmind.vc, Finnfund, Cornerstone Enterprises, Aucfan Incubate, Seedstars International, Kepple Africa Ventures, Barona, as well as individual investors. Founded in 2015, Fuzu provides AI-powered, personalised guidance to individual users; talent acquisition and data services to organisations.
Fuzu will use its latest investment to develop the next phase of its recruitment platform, grow its team and further spread its tentacles across Africa having expanded to Uganda in 2018. |

Applications are open till June 5 for the tenth Orange Prize for Social Entrepreneurship in Africa and the Middle East, which recognises technological projects with a positive impact that improve living conditions. Awarded by mobile operator Orange, the prize is open to innovators in education, healthcare, agriculture, mobile payments and sustainable development.
